The Villa of Valgiano was built during the Renaissance by an aristocratic family from Lucca , the Compagni Buonvisi. They chose this spot because of the position and the strong geological morphology of the soil.
It has a perfect proportion and harmony, surrounded by walls that were built for protection, when it was a fortress. They enclose a large garden, with beautiful trees, lawns, and flower beds, there are 4 fountains where water from the source flows constantly, a neo gothic chapel and other minor buildings such as the lemon trees’ house.
The house is part of a 60 hectares farm where 40 hectares are woods of acacia, oak and chestnut trees, on the hills above. The farm is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. The main activity is winemaking, Valgiano wines are unique and delicious, known world wide. But also, extra virgin olive oil, three types of honey, wheat, fruit trees, vegetables, pigs, chicken, guinea fowls, geese and rabbits are grown in Valgiano, all according to bio dynamic practices.
